ALESSANDRO DELL'ENDICE    Architect and Building Engineer

After dealing with topics related to the structural behavior of innovative materials for usage in free-form architecture, I worked on the structural and architectural design of residential buildings. In the first half of 2015, I improved my skills in 3D printing and prototyping of interior design objects. From September 2015 to September 2016, I was a student at ETH in the MAS Program in Architecture and Digital Fabrication (conducted by Gramazio Kohler Re- search), where I developed strong competences in digital design (Grasshopper, Python, etc.) and fabrication. In the Master Thesis Project we built a two story pavilion using two robots, made out of wood. In this completely in- novative design process, I was responsible for the structure using the parametric FEM software, Karamba 3D. In this year I also collaborated in the fabrication of the formworks for the Swiss Venezia Biennale Pavilion 2016 (Arch. Christian Kerez) and as a development engineer in the successful start-up QualySense AG. From November 2016 to April 2018, I worked as Research Assistant at Block Research Group, ETH Zurich. My research activity focused on unreinforced masonry structures, in particular on the structural analysis of masonry vaults using computational tools and physical models (parametric models using the python based framework “compas” and 3D printed models). From May 2018 I’m a PhD Student at the Block Research Group, ETH Zurich, and my PhD topic is “Practical Stability Assessment Strategies for Vaulted Unreinforced Masonry Structures”.
